China welcomes reports of India rejecting Aus' request to join naval exercises

Image
China today welcomed India's reported decision to reject Australia's request to join this year's Malabar naval exercises saying the security concerns of the different parties should be taken into account while holding such drills. "I have seen the relevant reports on the refusal made by India for the invitation. I think India is also clear about the consideration behind this behaviour," Hua Chunying told media briefing reacting to a report that India has rejected Australia's request to join as observer to avoid backlash from China. She however did not elaborate on India's "consideration" in rejecting Australia's request to join the naval exercises scheduled to be held in July in the Bay of Bengal. "But I think we are happy to see normal dialogue and communications on security issues. But we also hope that when conducting such operations, the parties can fully consider the security concerns of the different parties and also play a positi...

The police said that the family members were assaulted and looted and also that one of the members was shot dead. They said that the women would be sent for medical examination to ascertain if they were gang raped. Police officials said that the bandits had fired at one of the tyres of the vehicle forcing the driver to stop it. The bandits, who numbered around six, took the family, consisting of four women, two men and two children, away from the highway and looted cash and valuables besides shooting one of the men dead, when...

Thick Forest Cover Hampering Search for Missing Su-30 Fighter Jet

Image
Mountainous terrain and thick forest cover were posing a challenge to several teams, including airborne, searching for the Indian Air Force’s missing Sukhoi-30 fighter jet on Thursday, two days after it disappeared with two pilots close to the China border. The Indian Air Force said the weather was marginally better on Thursday, and a C-130 aircraft with electro-optical payload and ALH helicopters of IAF are being utilised for the search mission. However, the terrain and thick forest cover are posing a challenge in the search operations. Today the weather was marginally better as a result more air effort could be put in. However, the terrain and thick foliage of the search area is a challenge to the ongoing operations, IAF said in a statement. Apart from the aerial assets, more personnel were added to the existing four ground parties of IAF personnel, nine parties of the Indian Army and two parties of the State Administration which are already deployed to search the area, the s...

This beautiful, large sprawling district lies in the centre of Assam. This enchanting hills district with its diversely rare flora and fauna has remained untouched and undiscovered. Mother nature has indeed been very generous to Karbi Anglong yet its potentialities for tourism remain sadly untapped.                            The peculiarity in the topography of the district lies in the fact that there are actually two parts in this district. large sprawling district lies in the centre of Assam. The western part part is bifurcated from the Eastern side by a part of Nogaon district. Thus we have the Hamren Sub-division on the Western part  with its rolling hills, dense forests, Waterfalls, rivers abd streams. Come to the East and you are greeted with a combine of flat paddy lands, green hills interspersed with blue meandering rivers.               ...

Kaziranga National Park to Close for Visitors

Image
Assam’s Kaziranga National Park will be shut for visitors from next week, Director Satyendra Singh announced on Thursday. He said that the jeep and elephant safaris will be closed from May 16. The increased rainfall in the last one month has partially submerged the roads inside the park making it difficult for jeeps to ply for safaris. “Similarly, the temperatures have also increased in the last couple of days and under these circumstances…Taking these factors into consideration, we have decided to close the park,” Singh said. The normal safari season is from November 1 to April 30. Earlier this year, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had announced an extension and said the government will try to open the park from October 1 to May 30. “We tried to follow the government’s directives but due to the weather factors, we took the decision to close the park from May 16. However, we are going to put in efforts to make sure that it reopens on October 1,” the park director add...
