New Year’s Eve Google Doodle captures the anticipation we’re feeling for 2017 to start

We’re all watching the clock tick! It’s less than 24 hours before we enter a whole new year, and given how much of 2016 has been — going purely by news headlines — there are many who can’t wait for 2017 to begin. Among those impatient for the clock to strike 12 on January 1, 2017, are these colourful netted balloons looking at the clock, jumping around as if urging time to move faster. Yes, it’s that sense of impatience for the new year to come is what the December 31 Google Doodle for 2016 is. “Happy New Year’s Eve! All across the world tonight, we’re sharing the eager anticipation of counting down to midnight: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…” is how the concept of the doodle has been described. Interestingly enough, the jumping balloons can also be read as symbolic of the impatience Indian citizens are facing as we wait for another address to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , which is scheduled for today evening. Coming a day after the 50-day deadline for depositing old

New Delhi:The cap on cash withdrawal may not be necessary from January 1, as 250-300 million currency notes were being printed on a daily basis, Minister of State for Finance Santosh Gangwar has said. "I have been told that 25-30 crore notes are being printed on a daily basis. Continuing with the withdrawal cap is not necessary from January 1," Gangwar said in an TV interview here on Thursday. "Inconvenience of limited withdrawal will lessen after December 30. Improvements can be seen in the transaction process in the last few days," he added. The Central government had demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes on November 8, sending the whole nation into a tizzy. Long queues outside banks have been a daily occurrence since then because enough currency notes are not available with the banks. The Minister said that sufficient quantities of new currency could not have been printed earlier as it would have leaked the news of demonetisati

AGP seeks 2 more berths in State Cabinet

GUWAHATI, Dec 30 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has demanded two more berths during the soon expected expansion of the State Cabinet.“With regard to the expansion of the ministry, we have conveyed our views to the Chief Minister. We want two more slots in the ministry,” AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said during a press conference here today. Asked if the party has internally decided on its two likely candidates for the ministerial berths, Bora replied in the negative. The much awaited expansion of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led ministry is expected to be undertaken by the second half of January 2017. The AGP has two ministers in the 11-member-strong ministry that took over in May this year following the victory of the BJP-led alliance in the Assembly polls. Besides Bora himself, AGP working president Keshab Mahanta is the other representative of the regional party in the ministry. Currently, another eight slots in the ministry are vacant. Naagin 2: Here’s why Mouni Roy refuses to shoot intimate scene with co-star Karanvir Bohra

Image
Tv actress Mouni Roy became instant rage when Naagin was aired on TV earlier this year. The TV show became a huge hit among the audience, so much so that the makers of the show decided to make a sequel to the show. Recently, the TV actress refused to shoot intimate scene with the co-star Karanvir Bohra. Not that Mouni Roy has shied away from doing intimate scenes in the past, the reason here was different. The actress refused to go on further with the shoot of the scene because of the presence of media on the sets. She felt extremely uncomfortable doing the scene with the media present there. Not just this, Mouni went ahead and put a condition that she will only shoot the scene when the media steps out of the sets.

Is this the new Rs 1000 note to be launched by RBI soon? Mumbai: Just a few days ago of the demonetisation of rupees 5,00 and 1,000 notes, Twitter was abuzz with images of the pink coloured Rs 2000 note bundles. The speculation was rife that these may be the new notes the Reserve Bank of India may be launching in the new year. After demonetisation on November 8, Rs 2,000 notes became a reality which were launched along with new Rs 5,00 notes by the RBI. Social media is again sharing pictures of Rs 1,000 notes, and rumours mills have started ringing again that emerald green coloured notes could be the new Rs 1,000 notes in your wallet soon. After the note ban, the Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das had said that a Rs 1,000 notes with new colour combination and new design Rs 1,000 notes will be released, but that would take time. In early December, there were images of grey coloured Rs 1,000 notes circulating on social media. So whether the new Rs 1,000 not

New RBI guidelines on cash deposits of demonetised notes add to confusion Individuals will only be able to deposit demonetised bank notes above ₹5,000 only once till the remainder of the deposit deadline i.e. December 30, 2016. RBI Governor Urjit Patel (file photo) Fresh guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India on Monday on limiting cash deposits of demonetised bank notes have added to the confusion. The central bank issued guidelines where it said that individuals will only be able to deposit demonetised bank notes above ₹5,000 only once till the remainder of the deposit deadline i.e. December 30, 2016. On the surface, the guideline appears to be one that will hit the remaining black money hoarders in a single blow. However, the government hasn’t been able to plug laundering and cash leaks at banks.
